Event FAQ

What to know before you go

🐶 Can I bring my dog if they’re not spayed/neutered?
For everyone’s comfort and safety, we ask that intact males and females over 7 months old stay home. Younger pups are welcome. This helps avoid hormonal tension as they mature and keeps the vibes low-stress for everyone.

🍖 Can I bring treats for my dog?
Yes, but please try and be discreet about it. Avoid handing out treats around other dogs, unless you ask their humans first. Some dogs have allergies or might guard high-value snacks. Let’s avoid any triggers or snaccidents.

🎾 Should I bring toys?
We recommend leaving toys at home. While we love playtime, toys can trigger guarding or competition between dogs, especially in open settings.

💧 Will water be provided?
We do our best to plan events close to public water fountains, but bringing your own bowl and water is always encouraged. Some dogs don’t like to share, and we respect that.

🐕 What if my dog is usually off-leash?
Even if your dog is a recall superstar, please keep them leashed during group events unless otherwise stated. Some dogs may be nervous, reactive, or in training, and we want everyone to feel safe and relaxed.

🧾 Who’s responsible if something goes wrong?
By attending, you agree to take full responsibility for your dog’s behavior and wellbeing. Monitor your pup closely, give space when needed, and step away if your dog seems overstimulated. Our goal is a kind, respectful and conscious dog-loving community.

🐾 Can I attend without a dog?
Totally! Come solo or with friends. These events are for dog people who love movement, community, and a little fresh air - no dog, no problem.

🐕 My dog is reactive or shy. Should we still come?
Maybe! If your pup is working through reactivity or easily overwhelmed, consider arriving early, staying on the outskirts, or trying a lower-energy event first. You know your pup best. Please feel free to leave early or take breaks as needed. There's zero pressure to be anywhere at any given time.

We do ask that dogs with a bite history, though equally loveable and cherished no less, kindly sit these events out to avoid unnecessary risk and distress brought on by unexpected triggers.

💩What if my dog goes to the bathroom?
Please bring your own poop bags and clean up after your dog. We'll try to have extras on hand just in case. Let’s try and leave our beloved parks and public spaces better than we found them!

📷 Will there be photos or videos taken?
Yes! These events are captured for social content. If you prefer not to be included, let us know when you arrive and we’ll be sure to respect your privacy. Otherwise, please flex your mutts and tag us @muttsandbutts.ca!

⏳ Do I need to stay for the whole event?
Absolutely not. These meetups are generally low-key. Come late, leave early, or just pop in for a bit. We’re just happy to see you and your plus ones.

📍 Do I need to register in advance?
In the interest of keeping the format casual, most movement meetups (including pack walks) are drop-in style.

Some events (especially those with limited capacity or giveaways) may require RSVP. We’ll always note this on Instagram or the event page.

🧘🏽 What should I bring?

  • For Yoga in the Park, bring a yoga mat or towel
  • Water (for you + your pup)
  • A leash (please avoid retractables)
  • Treats for 1:1 training
  • Optional: a small blanket for your pup to rest on

🥪 Can I bring snacks or drinks?

At picnic-style or casual events, yes–but we recommend that you stop eating as soon as you notice yourself being watched (by your dog or others) to avoid a fight. Occasionally we’ll have beverage or snack sponsors too, so stay tuned for what’s included! And unless otherwise stated, bringing outside food into an establishment that serves food is a no-no. Let's support our local businesses!

‼️IMPORTANT‼️PLEASE READ:

⌛️How do I know when my dog's had enough?

It’s like we said, you know your dog best, but here’s the truth: being around other dogs and people is a skill, and these events are just practice.

If your pup starts getting overstimulated, agitated, or just not enjoying themselves, that might be your cue to call it.

There’s no shame in taking space or heading out early. No one will judge. We’re all dog people here, and we’ve all been through it.

Outings rarely ever go perfectly, and that's okay. The goal isn't perfection. It's about being active outside with your ride-or-die.

Trust your gut, advocate for your dog, and come back when it feels right. 🐶
